Privacy policy

Last updated: 27 October 2026

This policy explains how Kernel Quad LLC ("KernelQuad", "we", "us") collects and uses personal data when you visit kernelquad.site or use the KernelQuad platform.

1. Who is responsible

Kernel Quad LLC, Wyoming, United States, is the controller for website visitors and for account data of individual users. When a university or company provides KernelQuad to its students or staff, that institution is usually the controller of the workspace content and we act as its processor under our agreement with it.

2. Data we collect

  • Account data: name, email address, institution or company, role, and sign-in identifiers from your SSO provider.
  • Workspace content: notebooks, code, files and datasets you upload or create.
  • Usage data: compute and storage usage, session times, and logs needed to operate, bill for and secure the service.
  • Communications: messages you send us, such as early-access requests through our contact form and support emails. Contact-form submissions (your name, email, organisation, message, and the country derived from your IP address) are stored with Cloudflare and deleted after 90 days unless they become part of an ongoing customer relationship. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which processes limited technical data to tell people from bots.
  • Website data: basic technical data such as IP address and browser type, processed by our hosting provider for security and performance. We do not use advertising cookies.

3. How we use it

  • To provide, maintain and secure the service, including backups.
  • To manage accounts, courses, budgets and billing.
  • To respond to requests and provide support.
  • To prevent abuse and enforce our acceptable use policy.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use workspace content to train machine-learning models.

4. Legal bases (EU/EEA and UK users)

We process data to perform our contract with you or your institution, for our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, to comply with legal obligations, and with your consent where required.

5. Where data is stored

Workspace data is stored in the region you or your institution choose. Encrypted backups are stored with Cloudflare R2, as described on our security page. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. Service providers

We use Amazon Web Services (compute and storage) and Cloudflare (website hosting, DNS, network protection and backups). They process data on our behalf under contractual data-protection terms.

7. Retention

We keep account data and workspace content while your account is active. After an account or course ends, we delete workspace content within 90 days unless your institution instructs otherwise or the law requires us to keep it. Backups expire on a rolling schedule.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. If your account is provided by your institution, we may refer your request to it. Contact [email protected]. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

9. Students

The service is intended for users aged 16 and over. When we provide the service to an educational institution, we use student data only to provide the service to that institution.

10. Security

We use encryption in transit and at rest, access controls and logging. See our security page.

11. Changes

We will post updates here and change the "last updated" date. For material changes we will notify account holders.
